Iron roster moves

The Iron have signed quarterback Chris Malleo, a rookie out of Northwestern. Glad to see Compton signed another quarterback considering Todd Hammel never practices with the team.

The Iron have signed OL/DL Dwayne Holmes, a rookie out of Michigan State.

The Iron have signed OL/DL Dan Cline, a rookie out of Western Kenutcky who is 6'6 and 270 pounds.

OL/DL Markevius Woods has been activated from Injured Reserve.

The Iron have signed WR/DB Brandon Golder, who was recently released by the Peoria Pirates.

The Iron have placed OL/DL LaThavis Miller on Injured Reserve.

Iron host Quad City Steamwheelers on Friday

The Milwaukee Iron are back home on Friday June 19th as they take on the Quad City Steamwheelers at 7:00 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The Iron are coming off a 63-28 loss to the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, the Iron are 4-7 on the season. The Steamwheelers are coming off a 75-56 loss to the Kentucky Horsemen, the Steamwheelers are 4-7 on the season also. The Iron offense struggled all game against the Yard Dawgz and Todd Hammel had his first game against a good team and did not do well. Hammel needs to get play better this week and so does his offensive line, who gave up 7 sacks against Oklahoma City last week. The Steamwheelers defense has been struggling lately so hopefully the Iron offense can put up a lot of points, because even though the Steamwheelers are without starting quarterback J.J. Raterink, the Steamwheelers offense is still very good. They have one of the best wide receiving cores in the af2 that includes Jesse Schmidt, Kris Peters, Jack Walker Jr. Jesse Schmidt in my opinion is the best wide receiver in the af2. The Steamwheelers starting quarterback now is Brian Zbydniewski. This is a huge game, the winner will be in 3rd place in the af2 American Conference Midwest Division and will still legitimately have a chance at making the playoffs. I think the Steamwheelers will come out on top 63-55. Game time is 7:00, you can also watch the game on Time Warner Cable Channel 32 and Nifty-TV on your computer.

Iron fall to Oklahoma City 63-28

The Milwaukee Iron's two game winning streak came to an end as they lost to the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz last night 63-28. The Iron fall to 4-7 and the Yard Dawgz improve to 6-5. Iron quarterback Todd Hammel faced his first test of the season last night, Hammel has played two games for the Iron, and are opponents in those games are not very good. Hammel did not do so well last night throwing 4 interceptions and fumbled the ball twice, but it didn't help that he got sacked 7 times and that his offensive line didn't give him much help. But hey, how do you expect players to develop chemistry with Todd Hammel when he never practices with the team? That is such a joke that the Iron just went after this guy because he used to play for the Milwaukee Mustangs. You would think Coach Compton would have the common sense that your quarterback needs to practice with the team in order to be success on game day. We have a very good wide receiving core, I think it is arguably one of the best in the af2. We need a quarterback that actually has time to practice with the team. The Iron fell behind in a hurry in this one as they were down 34-14 at one point. The Iron's best chance to get back in this one was when it was 34-20 Yard Dawgz and the Iron just got a stop on defense and the offense had a chance to cut the lead to 7. The Iron's next game is Friday June 19th at home against the Quad City Steamwheelers. This is a huge game, it is a divisional game and both teams are 4-7 and are tied for 3rd place in the Midwest Division. I will have a preview of the game up later in the week.

Iron travel to Oklahoma CIty to take on the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz tonight

The Milwaukee Iron travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz tonight at 7:00 at the Cox Convention Center. The Iron are coming off a 58-47 win over the Mahoning Valley Thunder, the Iron are 4-6 on the season. The Yard Dawgz are coming off a 56-54 win over the Arkansas Twisters, the Yard Dawgz are 5-5 season. The Iron offense is on fire right now, quarterback Todd Hammel is playing great and his wide receiving core is playing very well. Antoine Burns, Scott Burnoski, Bryan Pray, and Kellen Allen are really stepping up. Hammel will face his first real test against the Yard Dawgz. Mahoning Valley and Albany are not very good. The Yard Dawgz high flying offense is led by quarterback Robert Kent, wide receiver Al Hunt, wide receiver Fred Shaw, and wide receiver Craig Fulton Jr. The Iron defense faces a big challenge, but I think they are up to it. They are playing well right now, Sammy Walker has done a great job with the defense. I think the Yard Dawgz will come out on top 62-48. Game time is 7:00, you can watch the game on Time Warner Cable Channel 32 and on Nifty-TV on your computer.

Time for new ownership for the Bonecrushers

The current ownership is an absolute joke, last season, no players and coaches were paid and this season some players and coaches were paid and some weren't. They never marketed the team, which is a reason why they only drew around 200 fans a game this season and the other reason why is because of the situation that happened with Gilbert Brown last season. If this team comes back, there is no doubt there has to be new ownership. There is no way the current owners have the money for another season. There are rumors about ownership groups interested in buying the team and if this is true and one of the groups buys the team, they need to change the team name. With everything that has happened with the Bonecrushers, the team needs a new name. No one in Milwaukee will support the Bonecrushers. I really believe that if there is a good ownership group that buys the team and the team has success on the field that the people of Milwaukee will support a CIFL franchise. Yes, it would be tough to compete with the af2 and the Milwaukee Iron, but as long as the new ownership group is a good and the team has success on the field, then I think the team will get at least some support no matter how the Iron are doing. The Iron got off to a rocky start, but are playing well right now, there attendance may not be the best, but the Iron are playing well now and are tied for 3rd place in the af2's American Conference Midwest Division at 4-6. The Iron may get back to averaging 5,000 fans a game like they did in there first home game if they keep winning. The Bonecrushers were getting good coverage by radio, TV, and newspapers before Gilbert Brown resigned last season. If there would be a new ownership group that would buy the Bonecrushers and change the team name, I think they would get decent coverage and draw fans.

Iron beat Mahoning Valley Thunder 58-47

The Milwaukee Iron beat the Mahoning Valley Thunder last night 58-47, Iron quarterback Todd Hammel was 25 of 39 for 337 yards and 7 touchdowns. Hammel has now thrown 14 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in his first two games with the team. The Iron improve to 4-6 and the Thunder fall to 1-9. It was the first home win for the Iron in franchise history. Wide Receiver Antoine Burns caught 4 touchdowns passes and that brings his total to 20 touchdowns for the season. Burns caught 8 passes for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns and also had a rushing touchdown. Wide Receiver Bryan Pray caught 7 passes for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. Wide Receiver Kellen Allen caught 6 passes for 77 and 2 touchdowns. Wide Receiver Scott Burnoski caught 3 passes for 58 yards and 1 touchdown. This offense is on fire now and are playing very well, granted there last two opponents are not very good, but the offense is still playing great and the defense also got back on track and played great last night as well. The Iron defense held the Thunder scoreless in the 4th quarter. The Iron's next game is Saturday June 13th as the Iron travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Kickoff is at 7:00 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. I will have a preview of the game up next week.

Iron roster changes

Wide Receiver Kellen Allen has been activated from injured reserve.

Quarterback Shane Adler and OL/DL Ives Morrissey have left the team.

Wide Receiver Ricardo Lenhart has been released.

Iron host Mahoning Valley Thunder tonight

The Milwaukee Iron are back home tonight as they take on the Mahoning Valley Thunder at 7:00 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The Iron are coming off a 66-63 win over the Albany Firebirds. The Iron are 3-6 on the season. The Thunder are coming off a 61-39 lose to the Kentucky Horsemen. The Thunder are 1-8 on the season. The Iron played very well last week, especially on offense with new quarterback Todd Hammel, who is 42, played a great game last week and can hopefully keep it up this week. The Iron struggled on defense a little last week, but hopefully bounce back this week against the Thunder who are currently on an 8 game losing streak. The Iron beat the Thunder earlier in the season 59-39 in Youngstown, Ohio. The Iron offense should have a great game tonight. Todd Hammel should have no problem finding Antoine Burns, Scott Burnoski, Bryan Pray, and Kellen Allen open. Pray caught 5 touchdown passes last week and Kellen Allen was activated from injured reserve yesterday. For the Thunder, starting quarterback Blake Powers was placed on injured reserve 2 days ago. Which means the Thunder's only quarterback Davon Vinson will get the start tonight. I think the Iron will come out on top in this one 55-34. Game time is 7:00 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. You can also watch the game live on Nifty-TV.

Iron beat Albany Firebirds 66-63 in thriller

New quarterback Todd Hammel played great in his first start as the Iron beat the Albany Firebirds 66-63 last night. Todd Hammel was 23 of 32 for 273 yards and 7 touchdowns. Wide Receiver Bryan Pray had 8 catches for 143 yards and 5 touchdowns. Wide Receiver Antoine Burns had 9 catches for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns. Burns also had a 57 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Wide Receiver Scott Burnoski had 6 catches for 43 yards. Todd Hammel was very impressive in his first game since 2006 and with the Iron. If he plays like that against the Mahoning Valley Thunder next week the Iron should have no problem putting points on the board. Firebirds wide receivers Christian Wise and Alvin Ray Jackson each had 3 touchdown catches. The Iron return home next week on Friday June 5th as they host the Mahoning Valley Thunder at the Bradley Center at 7:00. I will have a preview of the game up next week.

Bonecrushers beat Miami Valley Silverbacks 40-32

Iron sign QB Todd Hammel

The Milwaukee Iron have signed quarterback Todd Hammel. Hammel has 15 years of AFL experience and played 5 seasons with the Milwaukee Mustangs, from 1994 to 1999. He has also played with the Dallas Texans, Fort Worth Calvary, Florida Bobcats, Houston Thunderbears, Grand Rapids Rampage, Las Vegas Gladiators, Philadelphia Soul, Chicago Rush, and Colorado Crush. Hammel has a impressive resume, but he is also 42 years old, he is now the oldest player in the af2. He has a career quarterback rating of 90.35. Do the Iron want to be connected with the Mustangs this bad that they have to sign a 42 year old quarterback? This is ridiclous. This makes Saturdays game that more interesting. I completely disagree with this move, they should have traded for a quarterback in my opinion.

Iron go up against the Albany Firebirds Saturday

The Milwaukee Iron travel to Albany, New York to take on the Albany Firebirds Saturday at 6:00 at the Times Union Center. Both the Iron and Firebirds are coming off bye weeks. The Iron are 2-6 and the Firebirds are 3-5. The Iron have yet to sign a quarterback, which is something they have to do since both Tyler Donovan and Shane Adler are injured. I am sure Coach Compton has someone with the team that is not officially signed, but the Iron should have got the quarterback they have in practice signed a while ago. I would assume they have a quarterback, it's not like they would have wide receiver Scott Burnoski play quarterback again when he should be at his natural position. The wide receiving core has been playing well and hopefully that will help out are new quarterback. Players to watch out for on Albany are quarterback Stephen Wasil and wide receivers Christian Wise and Alvin Ray Jackson. The Firebirds have been playing well as of late and will be a tough match-up for the Iron. I think the Firebirds will win 48-21. Game time is 6:00 on Saturday. You can watch the game live on Time Warner Cable Channel 32 and on Nifty-TV on your computer.

Bonecrushers host Miami Valley Silverbacks Saturday

The Milwaukee Bonecrushers host the Miami Valley Silverbacks on Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee at 6:30. The Bonecrushers are coming off a 70-50 lose to the Chicago Slaughter. The Bonecrushers are 2-8 on the season. The Silverbacks are coming off a 53-30 lose to the Wisconsin Wolfpack. The Silverbacks are 0-8 on the season. The Bonecrushers offense played very well last week against Chicago. Quarterback Brett Hall and wide receiver Mike Leaks had big games. Leaks had 5 touchdowns in the game. Hopefully the Bonecrushers offense can pick up right where they left off on offense and the defense can improve and the Bonecrushers can come up with a win in the final game on the season. Game time is 6:30 at the U.S. Cellular Arenain Milwaukee.

Bonecrushers fall to Slaughter 70-50

The Bonecrushers fell to 2-8 last night losing to the 11-0 Chicago Slaughter. The Bonecrushers offense played well against a good Chicago defense. Quarterback Brett Hall. In the game, Brett Hall hooked up with Deonte Harris for s 17 yard touchdown pass. Brett Hall hooked up with Mike Leaks all game, Leaks had a great game. Brett Hall also hooked up with Dorian Palmer for a 34 yard touchdown pass and also a short touchdown pass to Jeff Huebner. Chicago quarterback Russ Michna had a great game through the air and wide receiver Bobby Sippio had a great game also. The Bonecrushers next game is May 30th against the Miami Valley Silverbacks. I will have a preview of the game up next week.

The Iron need a QB now

The Iron are without a quarterback as both Tyler Donovan and Shane Adler are out with injures and the Iron has yet to sign a quarterback, I am sure he is close to signing one, but the Iron need a quarterback now so that the offense can start to gell with him and develop a connection. I check the af2 transactions on af2.com every day and they have yet to sign a quaterback. It was a good move to get some offensive line help in the trade with the Florida Firecats, but getting a quarterback should be the main priority right now. I think they should trade for a quarterback so then you have someone that has been playing and not just waiting for someone to give them a call and not playing at all.

Bonecrushers host 10-0 Chicago Slaughter on Friday

The Milwaukee Bonecrushers will take on the 10-0 Chicago Slaughter Friday at 7:30 at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee. The Bonecrushers are coming off a 32-12 loss to the Rock River Raptors. The Bonecrushers offense struggled all game and the offensive line was man handled. The defense played very well forcing 3 interceptions. The Slaughter are coming off a 67-22 win over the Wisconsin Wolfpack. The Slaughter recently signed AFL standout wide receiver Bobby Sippio. Sippio has played with the Tampa Bay Storm and the Chicago Rush in the AFL and also spent a season with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs. The Slaughter needed a wide receiver since Donovan Morgan will miss the rest of the regular season do to injury. Sippio dominated in his first game with the Slaughter. In my opinion, the Bonecrushers don't have any chance of winning this game. Quarterback Russ Michna is going to tear apart the Bonecrushers defense and wide receiver's Bobby Sippio, Dontrell Jackson, and Kieth Herron will run circles around are defense. I will take the Slaughter in this game 85-26.

Iron acquire OL Riley Salinger from Florida Firecats

The Iron have acquired rookie offensive linemen Riley Salinger from the Florida Firecats for defensive back James McCoy. Riley played college football at Wagner. Riley is very big at 6'3 300 pounds, he should be a big help on the offensive line that needs all the help they can get.

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Quarterbacks the Iron should consider signing or trading for

Ronnie Gordon- Has a ton of af2 experience and was recently in the area before he left the Milwaukee Bonecrushers when former Bonecrushers Head Coach LeRoy McFadden resigned.

Kent Smith- Is with the Peoria Pirates now and has been the starting quarterback, but was in and out of there last game against Green Bay on Friday and with former Chicago Rush Head Coach Mike Hohensee coming in, there could be quite of few players on the Pirates out of a job, and he could be one of them. He has great running ability and the Iron could start to run out of the shotgun with him.

Cecil Lester- The odds of this one happening are slim, but Cecil is with the South Georgia Wildcats now and is the backup quarterback. He is better than Tyler Donovan and Shane Adler and he also has 4 years of af2 experience. He would be an excellent addition to the Iron. Again, the odds of this happening is slim, but I think the Iron should at least give the Wildcats a call and try to make a trade for this guy.

Bonecrushers fall to Raptors 32-12

The Bonecrushers were held scoreless in the 2nd half as they lost tonight to the Rock River Raptors 32-12. The highlight of the game for Milwaukee was quarterback Brett Hall hitting Mike Leaks for a 13 yard touchdown reception. Hall also hit Jeff Huebner from 3 yards out. Raptors quarterback Brian Ryczkowski was 9 of 17 for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Raptors running back JR Taylor had 13 carries for 35 yards. The Bonecrushers did get 3 interceptions in the game. The Bonecrushers had just 87 yards of total offense in the game. The Bonecrushers will host the 10-0 Chicago Slaughter next week on Saturday May 23rd at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, game time is at 7:30. I will have a preview of the game up soon.

Iron lose in blowout to Tulsa 53-19

The Milwaukee Iron new the Tulsa Talons would a big challenge, but the Iron did not put up a fight as they lose 53-19. With quarterback Tyler Donovan on IR, Shane Adler was the only quarterback on the roster and Shane is now hurt also as he suffered a concussion when he was sacked by Tulsa's Kamau Jackson in the 3rd quarter. The Iron have a bye week so Coach Compton will have time to find a quarterback, but hopefully they sign one in a few days so he can practice during the bye week and get to know the system and his fellow teammates. Coach Compton really needs to find some new offensive linemen, they have given up the most sacks in the af2 this season. Wide Receiver Scott Burnoski took over at quarterback throwing one touchdown pass and running for one. It was Burnoski's first time ever playing quarterback. Kicker Alex Walls had two field goals in the game. Antoine Burns caught a 12 yard pass from Scott Burnoski with 41.8 seconds left in the game. Quarterback Shane Adler struggled throughout the game when he was in. Talons wide receiver Jeff Hughley broke the Talons record for touchdown receptions by getting his 82nd career touchdown catch as a Talon. The Iron are off this week and will play at the Albany Firebirds May 30th at 6:00. I will have a preview of that game up soon.

Iron sign FB/LB Rob May, place Donovan on IR

Rob May was previously with the Tulsa Talons this season. May was with the Rio Grande Valley Dorados last season. May has 3 years of af2 experience. When you are palced on IR, you are automatically for 4 weeks, so Tyler Donovan won't see the field for a while. Don't be shocked to see the Iron sign a quarterback soon.

Bonecrushers play at Rock River Saturday Night

The Milwaukee Bonecrushers play the Rock River Raptors Saturday at the MetroCentre in Rockford, Illinois. The Raptors beat the Bonecrushers in there last meeting 41-31. The Bonecrushers are coming off a 55-33 lose to the Fort Wayne Freedom, the Bonecrushers are 2-6 on the season. The Raptors are coming off a 77-47 lose to the undefeated Chicago Slaughter. That lose ended the Raptors 4 game winning streak. New quarterback Brett Hall seems to be fitting in nicely with the offense after playing in his second game with the Bonecrushers. Wide Receiver Shatone Powers continues to play great for the Bonecrushers. Wide Receiver Dorian Palmer is back with the team after having a try-out with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL, congrats to Dorian. The Raptors top players are former Bonecrushers running backs JR Taylor and Bryan Jennings. Taylor was with the Bonecrushers earlier this season and Jennings was with the Bonecrushers last season. Raptors Wide Receiver Bryce Stephens II is a great player also. Raptors quarterback Brian Ryczkowski, who is also a former Bonecrusher is a decent quarterback. If the Bonecrushers defense can get some pressure on him they should be able to force a turnover or two. The Bonecrushers defense will need to ready as the Raptors have one of the best if not the best running game in the CIFL. Raptors running back JR Taylor had 19 carries for 104 yards two weeks ago against the Fort Wayne Freedom. I think the Raptors will come out on top in this one 48-32.

Iron host Tulsa Talons Friday Night

The Milwaukee Iron host the Tulsa Talons Friday night at 7:00 at the Bradley Center. The Iron are coming off a 62-57 come back win over the Peoria Pirates, where the Iron defense held the Pirates offense scoreless in the 4th quarter. The Iron are 2-5 on the season. The Talons are coming off a 75-56 win over the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, the Talons are 6-1 on the season. Iron quarterback's Tyler Donovan and Shane Adler played well in the Iron's win over the Pirates, hopefully that continues against the Talons tomorrow night. Wide Receiver's Antoine Burns and Scott Burnoski played well against the Pirates also. Burnoski had 2 touchdown catches and Burns had one, Burns also had a kickoff return for a touchdown. Burns continues to show that he is one of the best returners in the af2. The Iron defense will need to play well if the Iron want any chance at winning this game. The Talons high flying offense is led by quarterback Justin Allgood and wide receiver Jeff Hughley. If the Iron offense can't match the Talons possession by possession, this game could get ugly fast. It is unknown whether Iron wide receiver Kellen Allen will be back for this game, I am sure he would want to considering he played for the Talons last season. I think the Talons will come out on top in this one, 62-38.
